Statement:
I am a Behavioral Ecologist with interests in animal communication. I have for many years investigated functional aspects of bird song in the field. A major ongoing project looks at how singing behaviors are used in aggressive signaling between male birds. I have examined a variety of possible aggressive signals in Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler, including song length, song type and variant switching frequencies, repertoires, and the use of soft song. I am especially interested in determining which behaviors are reliable indicators of attack and which mechanisms that maintain reliability.
