Introduction:Populations are generally resource limited, providing a positive association between abundance and resource level. A very large number of individuals implies a large amount of resources that can be maintained for a long period of time. I collected observations of bird flocks with more than 100,000 individuals, and analyzed their abundance in relation to land-use, habitat, latitude and trophic level. The number of large flocks has decreased in abundance in recent years reflecting a reduction in resource availability.
